Applying Media theories 1
Define and explain the following media theories , then apply them to one music video and one print/moving image advert ( use two theories per media product).
Your blog post should show that you understand the meaning of all the theories and their key terms and how they could be put into practice in relation to audiences and their consumption of specific media products.
e.g One of the signs used in this advert is a rose , and its signification for the audience could be love and romance.
e.g if the target audience used this advert to help form their personal identity, as Gauntlett suggests, then the negative representations and aspirational imagery could have a serious and possibly negative effect on them.

Weekly News
Good Morning All.
Scrolling through your Weekly News postings it seems that there is a trend through most of your work that I hoped to try and address in order to improve your entries which will ultimately help you when you need to recall any information from the topics that we have discussed in class.
Remember most importantly that these posting are for You!
The detail of the research and contextually that you include will help to ensure that months down the line you will still have a comprehensive understanding, that will assist you through the exam modules.
So always include:-
What the source is and preferably the journalist. This can help you to understand what kind of bias may be influencing the telling of this story.
Contextualise the piece, where and when is this set? What is the social, political or economic background if relevant. Set the scene for your reader, bring us the story!
Refer to any comparisons to similar events or stories, what happened to the victims in the other stories?
Explore how have the audience reacted to the story was it a preferred, negotiated or oppositional response to what the Producer had intended?
Use contrasting opinions to demonstrate your understanding of the issues.
Conclude with your findings and suggestions.

Music Video - Empowerment Vs Exploitation
As per our last lesson and an exploration of our favourite music videos, we saw a broad and interesting range.
Through discussion we started to debate the blurred lines between Empowerment and Exploitation.
From Nicky Minaj to Beyonce. Who do you believe is leading the charge in Female empowerment and who is slowing down their progress?
You were tasked with completing a piece of work analysing at least two different Music Videos remembering to discuss the topics mentioned in our discussion. Satire, Choices, Consent, Audience, Producer and Ownership.
Please update your work with at least two videos used as examples to emphasise your points opinions outside of your own would also be a good addition to the written piece.
This should be updated prior to our class on Wednesday 22nd November.
